The Science and Technology Select Committee states that technology alone cannot sufficiently reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
The committee suggests that the government must improve public transport, walking, and cycling options to promote health and climate benefits.
The report also criticizes government policies on transport costs, as financial incentives for cleaner vehicles are inadequate.
The committee calls for a strategy to reduce the overall number of vehicles through enhancing public transport, lowering public transport costs, promoting car sharing, and supporting walking and cycling.
They also recommend improving the network of charging points for electric vehicles and researching the environmental impact of batteries in electric vehicles.
