Sales Soar: Can UK Laws Keep Up with E-Scooters?
Electric scooters may soon become legal on roads and cycle lanes in England due to increasing sales and public demand for regulation.
The government plans to introduce safety rules to protect riders and the public. Proposed specifications include a 15.5 mph speed limit, brake lights, and reflectors. It is anticipated that e-scooters will be treated like bicycles, prohibiting their use on pavements.
The Department for Transport is actively exploring regulatory options for e-scooters to promote innovative transportation.
A recent poll revealed that 60% of young adults support legalizing e-scooters. Lime, a company operating in 100 cities, has proposed a detailed blueprint for e-scooter regulations in the UK, drawing from its experience in other countries where e-scooters are already legal.
“The Department for Transport said e-scooters would be part of a review.
It added: “We are actively examining how they can be regulated for safe use on the road, in order to encourage innovative new forms of transport.”"
